Great Fire of London
As part of our Great Fire of London topic, Year 2 children took part in a range of exciting, hands-on activities. We went on a walking trip around London to look at different buildings and discussed which materials would burn easily. The children learned about Christopher Wren and how he helped rebuild London using stone buildings, including churches. They dressed up in 1666 costumes and enjoyed role-play as people from the past. Using building blocks, the children designed and built safer buildings, and they wrote like Samuel Pepys using quills and ink. These activities helped the children understand how the Great Fire started, spread, and changed London.
To prepare ourselves for the trip, we also did some role play in class and acted out how it started and what the people did.
