At St Helen's Small Steps practices look like:

• Executive Functioning focus on Patariki the Penguin
• Identify key components of a skill or concept and teach them sequentially
• Focus on one concept or skill at a time
• Chunking model showing connections
• Provide clear explanations and examples for each step
• Use guided practice before moving to the next step
• Check understanding at each stage with questioning or quick tasks
• Gradually combine steps as pupils demonstrate competence
• Worked examples showing small steps, practice each step before moving on
