Mr Lewis

I first joined St Helen's as a teaching assistant in 2014 and was accepted onto teaching training with LETTA the following year. Since then, St Helen's has provided numerous CPD opportunities. I began by shadowing the PE subject lead where I was shown how to monitor and analyse data. I then took over as the PE subject lead and have also led geography, DT and science. Leading a variety of subjects has given me a strong understanding of standards and curriculum expectations across the school from EYFS up to KS2. As well as leading subjects I have completed an NPQLBC, this course has helped me realise the work that goes into bringing about change within a school, how to communicate expectations with staff and manage difficult conversations.
I have also completed the CCRS which was extremely useful, I have gained a much deeper understanding of the Catholic faith which has allowed me to plan and deliver much more in depth religion lessons. I have also been trained to be a mentor to student teachers through LETTA and PLS. Mentoring has been a rewarding experience and has also had a positive impact on my pedagogy, training student teachers has given me the confidence and skills to analyse children's learning to a much greater level,. St Helen's has provided me with countless opportunities to grow and expand my role as a teacher and leader which I am eternally grateful for.
